Jennie & Eric Hultquist – The Trip of a Lifetime

We originally met Jennie and Eric on a volunteer project through A Year to Volunteer back in February of 2022 at Sam Houston Jones State Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Who would have guessed when we met them, that we’d be traveling with them throughout Canada and Alaska a few years later?  But low and behold, Jennie and Eric were the fearless leaders of our Alaskan Gang this summer.  We traveled over 7,000 miles with them from the end of May through the beginning of August and had a fantastic time.  It was the trip of a lifetime, even though we hope to return to America’s Last Frontier at some point in the future, this trip has given all of us memories that will last a lifetime.

Dan and Sandy – Back to the Lower-48

We talk about our incredible experience in Haines, Alaska when we saw the Northern Lights.  Our trip from Haines to Skagway on the Ferry.  We experienced the Yukon Suspension Bridge and the Carcross Desert as we made our way down to Vancouver before crossing back into the United States.

Once we got into Washington, we still had a few more adventures with Alex and Cooper before they split off to make their way back to Pennsylvania.  We explored both Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks before splitting off on separate routes back east.

Episode #300 – Dan, Sandy, and Alex – A Summer to Remember

Episode #300 – What a milestone!

It’s crazy to think that I have released 300 episodes of this podcast.  The people I’ve met, the places and things that we’ve spoken about have been amazing.  It’s truly been an honor to share the stories of so many incredible people as well as taking you all along for the ride as Sandy and I continue this incredible journey.

I wanted this to be a special episode, so I got both Sandy and our grandson, Alex to sit down and have a casual conversation about some of the highlights of our amazing Canadian and Alaskan adventure over the past three months.

From July 15th through August 15th, we explored Homer, Steward, Anchorage, Palmer, Talkeetna, Denali National Park, Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs, and Delta Junction in Alaska before crossing back into Canada to start our trek back into the Lower-48.

It’s been such an amazing summer.  I was able to work in three book signings throughout Alaska and we were completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

Alex Croft – A Journey of Independence

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down and talk to my grandson, Alex Croft.

This is the second time that I have had Alex on my podcast.  The first was two years ago between his Junior and Senior year of high school.  The first episode, we recorded in his backyard in Pennsylvania.  This episode, we recorded in our RV while we were staying in Homer, Alaska.

Back in May, Alex, with just his 7-month-old Jack Russell mix puppy, Cooper, by his side, embarked on a journey of independence.  They drove from Myerstown, Pennsylvania to Great Falls, Montana to meet our group that was traveling throughout Alaska and Canada this summer.

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, Sandy and I talk more about our amazing summer long northern adventure through Canada and Alaska.

We spent a little over a month traveling throughout Canada.  We made it north of the 60th Parallel and all the way up to Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories.

We traveled over 300 miles of dirt and gravel roads and saw some of the most amazing waterfalls you could ever imagine.

Dan and Sandy – Oh, Canada

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, Sandy and I talk about our trip up the Oregon Coast, into Washington, and eventually across the border into Canada.

After almost two years in the making, we were excited to meet our friends and grandson, Alex in Great Falls, Montana to start our 3-1/2-month journey throughout Canada and Alaska.  Even though we had only been in Canada for a little over two weeks when we recorded this episode, we have already seen so many amazing things and made incredible memories.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Always try to make people smile and feel happy. You never know what they may be going through.
Don’t bite when a bark will do.
Always make time to take a walk, and get into nature.
Anytime is a good time for a nap.
You’ll get more treats when you’re nice.
Take time to smell the roses, as well as anything else that you can smell.
Always make time to play.
Be grateful.
Live in the moment.
Enjoy the journey.

I’m a Salty Dog!

I’ve been in the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Salt Lake.  This summer, when we go through Canada and Alaska, I’m even going to get to see the Artic Ocean.  Daddy says that the water will be too cold for me to dip my paws into it, but I sure hope that daddy is wrong about that.  It’s going to be in June, so I hope that it isn’t too cold.  I hope that mommy and daddy let me get my paws wet.  Even if is too cold for me to dip my toes in it, I’ll still be happy just to be able to see it.

These Paws

I put this in my book, but I don’t think that I can ever stress it enough, so I am going to put here again, and hope that more people take heed to my rules to live by.

Time to Adventure Again!

Wednesday was a really great day at Knoebel’s because a lot of people came up to visit me that day!  Matthew and Rebecca were still there and Jason, Rebecca’s boyfriend was there.  He actually came to see me on Tuesday, but stayed until we all left on Thursday.  But on Wednesday, Sherry, and Stephen, and Alex and his girlfriend, Kaylynn, and Lizze, and Stephie, and Lillian, and Lillian’s friend Kelsey all came to Knoebel’s just to visit with me!  It was an awesome day!

After Knoebel’s, we were headed back to Matthew’s house for the weekend before starting our next adventure.

I’m really excited for our next adventure!

We’re going to be headed to Colorado for a book signing tour for me and daddy.  I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to be able to sign with daddy, but I should be able to.  I’ve never seen the Rocky Mountains before, so I can’t wait to see them.  It’s going to be really exciting.  We haven’t been that far west since 2021 and I really loved seeing that part of the country back then.
