We spent a little over a week in Durango at my cousin, Becky, and her husband Bill’s house. While in Durango, we took a tour on the Durango to Silverton train, spent time on the lake, and took in a chuck wagon dinner.
After Durango, we took the Million Dollar Highway into Montrose. We spent a couple of days in Montrose. We stayed with our friends Trina and Tara O’Brien and then explored the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

We entered Colorado from the east taking US Route 40 out of Kansas. As we traveled across the Eastern Plains of Colorado and could slowly see the Rocky Mountains growing larger on the horizon, we were all left in awe of the beauty.

We made stops in St. Louis, Branson, Kansas City, Topeka, Ellis, Oakley, Goodland, and made sure to hit the highest point in Kansas with a short visit to Mount Sunflower.

We hadn’t been out west since 2021!
I mean, we did get to Wisconsin last year, but that’s not really that far west in the grand scheme of things. This time we were headed to Colorado to see the Rocky Mountains!
Once we got to Harpers Ferry, I knew that was the start of our trek out west to the Rockies and I was so excited!
