In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Marjorie Turner Hollman.
Marjorie Turner Hollman has completed four Easy Walking guide books, and the backstory behind Easy Walks–her memoir of learning to find joy in the face of difficult life circumstances. Partially paralyzed, she gets outdoors using hiking poles for support. A native Floridian, she came north for college and snow! A freelance writer, she has appeared on Boston’s WCVB Channel 5 TV news magazine show, Chronicle, the Boston Globe, local radio and cable TV shows, and been published in local, regional, and national publications.
Easy Walks has become a shorthand, Marjorie’s “brand,” for finding ways to open up the outdoors for those with mobility issues. Searching for healing in the face of unexpected life changes is her focus, derived from personal experience of sudden paralysis and partial recovery. Learning to make peace with life changes has become a theme of Marjorie’s books and presentations. Lending a helping hand to others who struggle with life’s challenges is an important part of Marjorie’s work.
As someone who really enjoys hiking and being outdoors, I really enjoyed the conversation with Marjorie. She proves that just being outside and connecting with God and nature is a great way to stay balanced and grounded.
