I have had a lot of fun since my last blog.
When my mommy and daddy were volunteering at the bird place in Wisconsin, me and daddy would get up early and walk on some of the really neat trails around where we were staying. Then on some days, me and mommy and daddy would go for another walk in the afternoon when they were done volunteering! Those days were the best days!
I loved getting to see all my friends that mommy and daddy volunteer with too. They all love me. Phil and Shar, John and Karen, Tom and Theresa, Gary and Jan, Eric and Jen, Jeff and Susan, Dennis and Debbie, Orien, were all happy to see me again. I met two new friends, John and Vicki as well. They all love me so much.
Then in the second week of the project, I was surprised when I saw Mike and Terri walking past our house on wheels! I was so excited to see Mike that I almost pulled my daddy over just to get to him so that he could pet me! Mike is a really good petter! He hits all the right spots! Terri is a really good petter too! That made my day when I saw Mike and Terri.
After we left the bird place, we were heading back to Pennsylvania, but we were going to take the long way there. We went back through the Michigan Upper Peninsula, just like when we went out to the bird place. Our first night we stayed on a farm and they had nice trails there. Me and mommy and daddy took a nice hike there.
The next day we were driving to another farm and we stopped on our way there and walked out to a lighthouse. It started to get cold and windy. It was really windy as we were walking out to the lighthouse, but I loved that walk. It was beautiful!
The last stop that we made before we got to our next farm was an overlook to look out over Lake Michigan. By the time we got there, it was starting to rain and get even colder. It was in that moment that I knew that we missed this so called “70-degree curve” that mommy and daddy had told me about.
On that stop, we met a lady named Cindy Norris. She was riding her bike from Washington State to Delaware. She was a cool lady. She completed her journey earlier this month and by doing so, she set the world record for being the oldest female to ever ride her bike across the country. And I got to meet her!
We stayed at The Gourd Barn that night.
The next morning after we did our laundry, mommy and daddy stopped to eat pasties for lunch. They smelled so good, but I was not allowed to have any because they had onions in them. After lunch, we drove down the western side of Michigan and stopped one more time to see Lake Michigan and it was so windy at that stop that my daddy had to hold his hat to keep it from blowing off his head.
That night, we stayed at Friske Orchards and it rained really hard. Mommy and daddy did share some of the yummy food that they got with me that night.
The next day we stopped to see a friend of mommy and daddy’s. Remember Lori, the lady who loves me so much from Louisiana? It was her daughter who we were visiting. Her name was Paige and she just had a new baby. Mommy and daddy went in to see her new baby. Mommy really likes new babies.
My favorite stop on our way back was at Farview Acres Farms. They had these really big horses there called Clydesdales. I liked those horses. I think Clydesdales are really cool horses. I was talking to the one for a while. I think she liked me too.
We were now headed to Indiana. We stayed at Creekside Farms just outside of Fort Wayne. Daddy met his friend Brian there and they went to some podcasters thing while me and mommy hung out at in the house on wheels. That was quality time for me and mommy.
The next day we drove all the way across Ohio and into Pennsylvania.
Mommy and daddy had a dinner at a place called Rachel’s Roadhouse. We were supposed to stay there for the night, but a couple of drunks got into a fight in the parking lot and daddy said, “We’re out!”
We drove a few hours and stayed at a Wal-Mart instead.
We were headed to another orchard in Catawissa, Pennsylvania called Rohrbach’s Farm Market. Mommy and daddy ate some good food there, but did not bring me any! We did get a nice walk in though, so that made me happy.
Now we were headed to New Jersey for the Mammoth March that me and daddy and Rebecca were going to hike in. We stopped and took two shorter hikes with mommy on our way there. We stopped at Hickory Run State Park and some place with waterfalls. We hiked about five miles total and I got a lot of people to pet me – it was awesome!
We stayed at a Cracker Barrel that night and daddy went to bed early because he wanted to be well rested for our 20-mile hike.
The next morning, I was so excited to hike with daddy and Rebecca, but there was rain in the forecast so mommy told daddy that I should not hike with them. I was not happy about this decision at all! I was looking forward to hiking 20-miles with daddy and Rebecca. Mommy said that she did not want me to get sick if it rained all day. I guess she did not care if daddy and Rebecca got sick though because they both still hiked.
You know what though, it only rained lightly for like 10 minutes, so I could have hiked and I made sure that daddy knew that when he got back. I just napped most of the day instead. Daddy and Rebecca were tired when they got back, I think that they probably would have slowed me down if I went with them. Rebecca was so tired that mommy had to stand behind her and push her butt into the house on wheels.
Rebecca stayed in the House on Wheels with us that night. She slept where I normally sleep, but that was ok because I knew that she was sore and tired. We all had breakfast at Cracker Barrel the next morning and I got bacon!
After breakfast, Rebecca went home to Staten Island and me and mommy and daddy went to do laundry. After we did laundry, we went to visit with one of daddy’s old interns, Freddy. I was just a little puppy when Freddy interned for daddy. I really like Freddy; he is a cool guy. I had to stay in the house on wheels because I would have eaten Freddy’s little dog and mommy and daddy did not want me to do that. But Freddy and his wife Krista did come out to visit with me and pet me before we left.
After our visit with Freddy and Krista, we went back to the Cracker Barrel for the night.
We got up really early, even before the sun and started to drive up to Troy, New York. We were going up to see Junior at his college, Hudson Valley Community College. It was raining hard when we first started driving, but stopped after a few hours.
It was a pretty drive up to Troy. The leaves were starting to change colors. We went from a Cracker Barrel in New Jersey to a Cracker Barrel in Troy, New York.
Daddy had a podcast and then we drove over to the college. Mommy and daddy were going to surprise Junior, so we went to the stadium and walked around the campus during his practice. We went over and stood by his car so that he would see us when he came out of the locker room after practice. It worked; we surprised Junior!
We were in Troy for a few days. Mommy and daddy took Junior to lunch one day and breakfast another day. Junior is like me, he likes to eat, so taking him for food makes him happy.
One night mommy and daddy watched his team play a game. I was going to go into the stadium too, but then daddy saw a lady take another dog in, so daddy said I could not go into the stadium because I would be yelling at that other dog all night. So, I just napped in the house on wheels.
When we left, we drove from Troy all the way back to Cabela’s in Berks County. It was a nice drive. Mommy and daddy stopped at this little deli in New York for some pie. Mommy had been wanting Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie since we were in Indiana and their friend Laura had posted on Facebook that the 9W Market in New York had the best Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie that she ever had. Because daddy loves mommy so much and will do anything to make her happy, daddy made sure that we stopped at the 9W Market on our way back to Pennsylvania so mommy could get her pie. Mommy got her Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie and daddy had cheesecake. They both said that it was very good. I would know though, because they did not bring any back for me.
After the pie stop, we drove up to Tallman Mountain State Park to hike. I love when we stop at random places to hike. Those are our best stops in my opinion.
The next day we went to another trail near Cabela’s and me and daddy walked 8 miles. Mommy walked like 4 miles with us, but then she went back to get a shower because we had other stops to make before going back to Matthew’s house. There were a lot of people that stopped to pet me on that hike. The trail was pretty. Some of the leaves had started to fall off the trees, so I could hear them crunch under my paws when I walked over them. That is my favorite sound, hearing the leaves crunch under my paws. Actually, when I hear mommy and daddy grab a snack for me or put my food in my bowl is my favorite sound now that I think more about it, but hearing the leaves crunch under my paws is like my third favorite sound.
We stopped for propane at Fisher’s and the propane guy was happy to see me again. He loves me so much. He remembered me and I remembered him! He petted me a lot while he was filling up our propane tank.
We got to Matthew’s house and he had our blocks ready for us to get set up.
He also had a whole pound of bacon for me, so I was really happy about that! They would not let me eat it all at once, but I sure wanted to.
We have been in his driveway for a while now, but we’re going to be hitting the road again soon.
